AmeriCorps Week 2025: Meet Current & Past AmeriCorps Members

Writer: CIANACIANA

As we close out AmeriCorps Week (March 9-March 15), we want to spotlight our AmeriCorps members who have served at CIANA in varying roles to help build our capacity.

2025 marks 10 years that the New York Immigration Coalition has hosted AmeriCorps members through the VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) program, who are then placed at NYIC member organizations across New York State, including CIANA.

AmeriCorps VISTA is characterized not by direct service, but by capacity building. VISTAs support their host organizations’ community-facing work by participating in fundraising, volunteer coordination, community engagement, and numerous other areas.

NYC Civic Corps is an AmeriCorps program run by NYC Service, the New York City government office that oversees citywide community service programs. Like VISTA, Civic Corps is focused on capacity building, specifically volunteer management.

In the last 10 years, CIANA has hosted eight NYIC VISTAs who have contributed to our capacity building efforts through communications, development and grantwriting, community outreach, and data management. We have also hosted two NYC Civic Corps members to oversee volunteer coordination.

Read about our current and past AmeriCorps members below:

Mariia Roth

2024-present, Grantwriting

Mariia currently serves as an NYIC VISTA for grantwriting, helping CIANA to attain the financial resources needed to achieve the far-reaching community impact we are known for. Acquiring funds on behalf of community-based organizations is more difficult than ever, but Mariia has handled all these challenges with dedication and determination.

Emiliano Barron

2024-present, NYC Civic Corps

Emiliano is responsible for recruiting and engaging volunteers to assist with the many programs and services CIANA offers. Emiliano helps to ensure that CIANA’s internal capacity matches the rich cultural and geographic diversity of the communities we serve. Originally from Georgia, being part of the Civic Corps, an AmeriCorps program run by NYC Service, demonstrates Emiliano’s commitment to supporting NYC’s diverse communities.

Micah Dicker

2019-2020, Communications & Development

Micah served as a VISTA at CIANA from 2019 through 2020, including the onset of COVID-19. His dual roles in Communications and Development were put to use to share information about the virus, raise funds for CIANA (as many CBOs and local communities had suffered a major financial hit), and keep the broader community informed about other important issues of the time. Since his VISTA service ended, Micah has remained at CIANA on its Outreach and Communications teams.

We are continually grateful for all the ways our AmeriCorps Members have contributed. Thank you to all our past and present NYIC VISTAs!
