Now in its fourth month, the 2020 Census can be completed online, over the phone, or by mail, and CIANA has been part of getting a complete count since the very beginning, focusing on our immigrant clients and neighbors. June 15 through June 20 is Immigrant Heritage Census Week of Action, dedicated to informing immigrants of all backgrounds why their count in the 2020 Census is so important.
Immigrant communities are typically undercounted in the Census, and as a result, they miss out on much-needed funding for schools, hospitals, parks, and other public services. The COVID-19 has demonstrated the need for such funding in immigrant communities, particularly regarding healthcare.
Raising awareness of the immigrant count this week will spread awareness of the struggles that immigrant communities face as a result of repeated Census undercount, and will help them recover from the pandemic, and flourish over the next decade.
CIANA will be participating in the Week of Action on our social media pages. We urge everyone to check us out on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
